Help You Lovely People

If you love me, and I know y'all do, please take a moment to send an email for me this morning.   Email the school board in Jackson Mississippi and tell them to REINSTATE the Strings in the School program! schoolboard@jackson.k12.ms.us

This program serves roughly 450 kids, many of them disadvantaged.  It has been in the public schools here for 40 plus years.  The decision was made without notice, without thought.  It will only take a moment and I'd appreciate it so very much.

Well, it took more than "a moment," but at least you were right that I love you.

Dear School Board:

Hello.  I am privileged to live in Vero Beach, FL, which is fortunate to have high-quality music education throughout the elementary, middle, and high school systems.  Orchestral, jazz, choral -- you name it.

Every day I think consciously grateful thoughts that many of the kids who participate are among those singers and musicians who entertain Vero Beach audiences regularly as paid or volunteer members of community theatre and concert organizations.  I trace our musical blessings back to the fact that the programs in the schools have not been short-changed.

I know times are tough.  I know you must have been looking to economize wherever you could.  But you need to understand that music is not a luxury.  It is a necessity.  I shouldn't need to tell you why.

You could be creative and encourage your students to give back to the community should they go on to musical careers that turn out to be financially rewarding.  If just a few of those kids makes the big time, you'll find out in a good way that what goes around comes around.

Please consider restoring the Strings in the School program, and thank you for giving me your thoughtful attention.

Sincerely,

Bob Lipton
